February 2012 Made with Xara Sussex Army Cadet Force Association In  mid  1994  a  chance  conversation  between  Dick  Drower and Bob Moorton, both retiring  from the Sussex ACF after  many years of service, agreed that friendships formed over such a long period, between all ranks and their ladies, should  not finish just because we had moved on.  Thus the idea of forming  an Association was born and  the help and guidance of Alan Dexter, Mike Perry and Ken Funnel  was sought.  As a result the first committee meeting was held in Alan Dexter’s home. The first formal event was a barbeque held at Dick’s home in June 1994, hosted by all the committee and their ladies and  was to become one of the many successful functions held at this venue.  Like  many  things,  a  small  idea  can  grow  and  like  the  proverbial  acorn, the Association has grown from it’s humble beginning into the organisation it is today.  The main aim of keeping members in touch is flourishing.  With the publication  of  our magazine  ‘The Sussex Sentry’  we are able to   inform members with current news and events within Sussex ACF.  The  members  also  raise  funds  for  our  Cadet  Assistance  Fund,  this  is also  supported by the Sussex Yeomanry and enables  us to help Cadets attend  annual  camp or other  expeditions worldwide.   Support is also given to the two Senior   Cadet Cadres and we sponsor the top students with camp fees.  Any serving Cadet can apply for help if the need arises.  Apart  from  the  Annual  General  Meeting  and  the  Annual  Dinner we try to hold one or two informal functions a year so  that members can meet and talk over old times or what they are up to now.
